Nicholas Rothwein
Nick joined the Research Team for a summer internship after graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. in 2026. Having grown up not far from the Clinic’s current location, he loved the opportunity to get involved and help the Clinic’s mission after hearing about our work since middle school.
“I coordinated a survey of all 50 state Newborn Screening Programs to discover more about the MSUD patient population that have been born and diagnosed since 2018, and to find out what information providers are routinely reporting on these cases. I also helped create a protocol for umbilical cord blood collection and subsequent isolation of CD34+ stem cells for patients at risk of primary immunodeficiencies, like RAG1 or RAG2 deficiency, to be used for ex vivo gene therapy in the hope of rescuing immune function. I enjoyed my time at the Clinic and am grateful that I got to be a part of the team that is making a difference in the community.”
