Landis joined our laboratory team for a summer internship before his senior year at the University of the South, where he studied Biology. He was drawn to an internship at the Clinic due to his interests in molecular biology, genetics, and the connection between research and patient care.

“At the Clinic, I had the opportunity to assist their efforts to optimize and launch an in-utero screening test—non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT). I handled the cell-free DNA (cfDNA) isolation and sample preparation for sequencing. I also contributed to the development of the spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) database through fragment analysis, allowing the Clinic to readily identify SMA silent carriers. In addition to the laboratory work, I shadowed physicians, gaining insight into how translational medicine is conducted and applied in a clinical setting.”
