Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine

While a student at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Lauren volunteered at the Clinic as a Student Researcher, helping with natural history studies of Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) and GM3 Synthase Deficiency. Upon her graduation in 2018, Lauren joined the Clinic staff full-time as a Research Fellow. She assisted Clinic researchers, scientists, and physicians with patient-centered research efforts through data collection, management, and analysis. In addition, she contributed to manuscript preparation, provided phlebotomy support, and planned educational family days. As of 2024, she is studying at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

“Over the four years I spent at the Clinic, first as a student researcher, and then as a full-time staff member, I learned many invaluable lessons about scientific research, complex medical care, and most importantly, about life. To this day, I treasure the opportunities I had to travel around the country with the research team organizing carrier testing for SMA, to plan numerous family education days, and to lead the Clinic’s natural history study of SMA that would pave the way for its groundbreaking work with gene replacement therapy.”
